I'm a reporter by training, and I learned to tell stories with data as a journalist at publications including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism. Although my beat and audience have changed over the years, telling stories with data has always been at the heart of what I do.
Today I support data-driven decision-making at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Division of Enrollment Management. I help leaders and practicioners find insights among noise to create new financial aid programs and answer questions about student behavior. I also support the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, a research/practice partnership dedicated to higher education access embedded within our division.
Currently, I am also a student pursuing an MS in GIS Development from UW-Madison GIS Professional Programs. I believe higher education data are inherently spatial, and research indicates geospatial techniques may not be used to study education as effectively as in other fields of sociology and economics. I want to help change that by providing on-demand spatial products to higher education policy makers and researchers.
